Finding Her Strength Again
Meet Emily, a graduate of MSL’s Hospitality courses. At 30 years old, this determined solo mum of three had already faced more challenges than most. After 15 years in hospitality, including a decade at Subway and five years in management, she reached a turning point. She knew she wanted more.
“I wanted more for myself. I’d been through some rough times in my teens and early twenties. I needed a change, not just for me, but to show my kids that you’re never too old to learn.”
Her turning point arrived through a simple Facebook ad for MSL’s hospitality course. What started as a small step became a life-changing journey. By completing her Level 2 and Level 3 courses, Emily gained new skills, fresh confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.
More Than Just a Hospitality Course
For Emily, MSL was more than a study space. It became a place where she felt seen, supported, and capable.
“MSL gave me so much more than an education. They gave me support, encouragement, and belief in myself. I started shy and full of self-doubt, but my tutors helped me see my worth. They pulled me out of my shell and reminded me I could achieve more than I ever thought possible.”
This sense of belonging reflects what sits at the heart of MSL Training, a community that builds confidence, nurtures growth, and empowers students to rewrite their story.
A Future Full of Possibilities
With her new qualifications and growing confidence, Emily made a bold choice to leave Subway. She joined a local golf club as a kitchen hand and barista. Her hard work paid off quickly, and she was promoted to 2IC of the bar and café. She helped run events, built strong relationships with customers, and became known for her great food.
Her homemade pies became so popular that locals encouraged her to start a small business. That opportunity eventually led her to Auckland Council’s Kitchen Project, a programme that supports rising food entrepreneurs.
A Community That Lifts You Up
Emily says her time at MSL transformed every part of her life.
“My journey with MSL changed my life – mentally, emotionally, and professionally. It’s more than training. It’s a community that believes in you and gives you the tools to believe in yourself.”
Her journey is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to start again, chase a dream, or show your kids what resilience looks like.
