Police Prep Course FAQs

Is the course free?

Our police preparation course is $3139 or ZERO under the FEES FREE Scheme. To check if you are eligible, visit https://www.feesfree.govt.nz/ or contact one of our Course Advisors on 0800 22 44 38 for assistance. 

Can I get a student loan?

Yes. All our programmes are NZQA approved. We can help you apply for a student loan to cover the costs of your fees.

When does the course start?

Check on our web page for dates. Places are limited. 

How old do I need to be, to join the MSL police prep course?

You must be 17 years and older. However if you do not meet this criteria, we encourage you to attend and participate in our pre-requisite days for the knowledge and experience.

How can I be considered for the MSL police prep course?

MSL has three prerequisite events. Prior to enrolment, potential students will need to attend/participate in:

  1. Pre-police course Seminar (attendance is encouraged)
  2. Pre-police course Pre-assessment (attendance is compulsory)
  3. Pre-police course Interview (attendance is compulsory)

What type of drivers licence do I need?

You will need to hold a current NZ Full drivers licence.  We will consider NZ Restricted drivers licence on the basis that:

  • If you are under 25 years of age, you have held your restricted for a minimum of 12- 18 months
  • If you are over 25 years of age, you have held your restricted for a minimum of 6 months

What are the course hours?

The hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 5pm – 9pm plus 3 hours of fitness over the Friday to Monday

Self directed hours are determined by the student according to their personal timetable.
